The short answer is - "anyone" - and you'll be made much more than welcome.
We meet every Tuesday in Aberlady Community Hall from 6:15 to 8:00pm.
We have currently 2 instructors, so the odds are you will have one to one instruction (or very close to it). For the first few weeks you will be learning the basic exercises and the first few moves of the 'set'. After that you will join the rest of the class for the exercises and as much of the set as you have learned after which you will be instructed separately on the other moves.
The short answer is 'how long is a piece of string?'
We find that everyone is unique - some pick up tai chi quickly, others less so. For that reason we never give an anticipated time to learn the moves as it will vary from one person to another.
You will receive instruction for as long as you need.
It's also true that this learning process never ends and even after you have learned the 108 steps of the set, you will spend the rest of your tai chi career learning and refining your tai chi.
Whatever you feel comfortable in.
We recommend loose fitting clothing - T-shirt and jogging bottoms perhaps - and flat shoes such as trainers, although some trainers have rather chunky soles.
For your own safety, please no heels!
No problem. If you want to try it but are unsure, we offer a free tester. Come along for a couple of weeks at no charge and if you decide to stay we will ask for the proportion of the annual fee for the balance of the year. If you decide it's not for you, no hard feelings but at least you know you have tried it.
You can read all you want about tai chi, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating! Why not come along to one of our sessions (Tuesdays at 6.15pm) and see what we're up to. You can even have a try at some of the exercises if you want. You'll be very welcome - and there's no charge!
